One of the founders and creators of Mamakakao is Kaisa Fuchs, who has been living in Guatemala and has connected with the culture and environment there.
I came across cacao while travelling in Guatemala, I still remember the local belief to always keep 2 cacao beans in your pocket when you need an energy boost! Cocoa plays a big role in Central American folklore.
I first came across cacao while walking through the local market, where I noticed strange dark blocks of cocoa, like bricks, in many places. I later learned that this was local cacao. Being on the road to self-discovery at the time, cacao came into my life at just the right moment to offer a gentle support.
I was going through a difficult period of time, with a recurring theme of connections - the break-up of a long-term relationship and the accompanying grief, letting go and seeking comfort in a new, fresh relationship. A very enlightening period to go through alone, living in a completely different culture and in a foreign country.
cacao came to show me that it's time to turn inwards and look at myself. Then cacao started to accompany me in the mornings with meditation and yoga practices. And then women started to gather around me and I started to organise my first small women's singles.
Living in a foreign country, a part of me felt at home there.
Even as an 8-year-old studying my father's history books about the Mayas, I knew I would one day be there myself. And when it came time to visit the Mayan ruins, the experience deepened my connection.
When my time in Guatemala was over, I stopped in Mexico - where the bigger internal processes started to work.
What did Guatemala teach me the most?
There is no escape from yourself and your inner world.
And in order to experience true love, you have to truly offer it, first and foremost to yourself, and to choose yourself.
Living in Mexico, I got to experience what it's like to live with my best friend. Different issues between women came up and at the same time there was so much care and support from each other.
While living in Mexico, I also had the opportunity to offer cocoa for the first time at an ecstatic dance. It was one of the greatest times of healing in my life, focusing on taking care of my body as well as my mind.
The biggest lesson from Mexico: A healthy mind in a healthy body.
As the ceremonial cacao and the cultural space there were part of one of my most transformative times, I wanted to share this miraculous herb of the heart, as the Mayans called cacao, with my people.
I started importing cocoa from Guatemala to Estonia with a good friend of mine at the time and sharing the goodness.
Today, it has become a company called Mamakakao - Back to the Roots, which reminds us that no matter how difficult we find life, by going back to our roots we can get in touch with our true power and strength.
Getting in touch with yourself, your family, your ancestors, the cacao spirit, nature and heritage is what really matters and carries you through life.
Kaisa organises cacao and women's singles. It is also possible to meet her for 1:1 mentoring.
